Leather
Leather is derived from the hides of skins of animals. It is a remarkably durable, strong and versatile material, which in its various forms has been made into objects ranging from African shields and drums to European saddles and kinky underwear. From as early as 2700 BC until fairly recently leather was also in the forefront of information technology with its use (as skins, vellum and parchme...
متن کاملIdentification of Leather Surface Defects using Fuzzy Logic
In the present work an application of fuzzy logic for leather surface defects identification is investigated. The defects create a discontinuity at the surface which leads to regions with different intensities than the background. Binary images are obtained after the segmentation. They contain non-defective (regular texture) and defective structural elements. The objective is to classify the el...
متن کاملDetermination of total chromium in tanned leather samples used in car industry.
Despite the high competition of synthetic fibers leather is nowadays still widely used for many applications. In order to ensure a sufficient stability of the skin matrix against many factors, such as microbial degradation, heat and sweat, a tanning process is indispensable. Using chromium (III) for this purpose offers a multitude of advantages, thus this way of tanning is widely applied. Durin...
متن کاملStudies on Degradation of Syntan used in Leather Tanning Process using Ozone
Degradation of syntan used in leather tanning process has been studied using ozone. Studies were carried out by varying operational parameters like initial syntan concentration, pH and ozone dose. The removal of COD, tannin and UV absorbing constituents has been determined. Degradation of syntan in terms of COD, Tannin and UV absorbing constituents was maximum at pH 7.
متن کاملSanogenetic Analysis of Hazardous Substances in Leather Used in Footwear Manufacturing
Footwear is a complex product, comprising various materials which are made using a wide range of chemicals. Some of these chemicals are hazardous for health and for the environment. Converting raw hides into finished products requires a number of complex treatments, for which large amounts of chemicals and water are used. The purpose of this study is to provide information on the harmful substa...
